Bucks NEP

Is it possible to meet the requirements of two Councils when creating a public website for a collaborative website? We took on the challenge and created a visually appealing and fully functional website for Bucks NEP.
NEP MK and Bucks website

Overview

Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Councils had collaborated on an Environmental Partnership and needed a website to promote their work. The aim was to raise eco-sustainable awareness by sharing published documents, advice and products. These encourage residents and organisations to get involved in projects such as sowing bee-friendly plant seeds.

Challenge

This was a content-heavy website. It required a system to organise documents and a directory for visitors to search for organisations by causes and regions. We also wanted to incorporate plenty of images to add visual interest and break up the text. The Councils also requested a gated section, with no public access, for Bucks NEP meeting agendas and minutes. The brief, design concept and functionality had to be agreed upon by representatives from both Councils.

Solution

We created a brand image that reflected their eco-sustainability values and added visual appeal with high-resolution images of nature. To ensure quick load times we altered the file size of these images. Technical processes were set up to enable visitors to place an order, download documents and find out about upcoming events. In addition, we made it easier for the Councils to export data from the database. And, we created member-only access areas for sharing internal information.   When the website was ready to launch, we trained council staff on how to undertake WordPress admin, so they could update the content.
