Workaid is a charity based in Amersham. This is the second website we have designed and built in for Workaid in the past 6 years. The new website includes an online shop (e-commerce), volunteer application forms, custom tool pickup enquiry form and newsletter sign-up functionality.

The Client

Workaid is a charity based in Chesham and Africa, which empowers young Africans by developing the skills and knowledge they need to gain employment or start a business. They run a Buckinghamshire hub, where donated tools and equipment are refurbished. These resources are then shipped to training centres and partner organisations in Africa.

Project Brief

Framework Digital developed the previous WorkAid website, but the organisation had evolved and they wanted a modernised website that better reflected their offer. We were delighted that they wanted to work with us again.

The brief was to create a mobile responsive website which focused on the collaborative partnerships that Workaid has developed to empower people. This included sharing stories from both the Chesham workshop and African training centres.

The website had to become an integrated part of their process. It needed to make it easier to receive donations of both tools and money, along with volunteer applications. An online virtual gift shop had to be added, with secure payment facilities, along with links to their eBay shop.

Our Solution

Tomas developed the previous website, but now it was Emona’s turn to lead the project. She developed a concept in response to the brief and presented it to the Workaid team. The response was positive, so Emona proceeded to build the site.

The new website incorporates a visual drop-down menu, which offers simple and engaging navigation. People involved in the projects take centre stage, with clear evidence of how the charity is transforming lives. A Content Management System (CMS) makes it straightforward to keep this content updated with upcoming news and stories.

Options for supporting Workaid, through tool donations, financial donations or volunteering their time, are clearly communicated and can be actioned online. This includes a shop with a secure gateway for processing payments. There is also a newsletter sign-up option for those who want to stay updated about the charity’s work.

The Results

Workaid is delighted with the new site, which was launched in August. As a measure of their gratitude, they have invited the whole team to lunch.
